Adoption-Net want to give a voice to the clients of the adoption and fostering agencies - the children as well as the adults - but also want to look at the issues from the other side of the fence and listen to the people who, everyday, have to make difficult life-changing decisions. Foster care is a service for children and young people who cannot be with their parents because of a family crisis. Foster carers take these children into their own homes and look after them. Although this is a temporary arrangement, a child's stay with a carer can last anything from a couple of days to several months. No matter how long they spend together, foster carers create an environment in which young people can feel well looked after, valued and supported. For more information, click here.

Dundee

In Scotland there are about 6,000 children and young people being looked after by local authorities - most of these live with foster families.

Dundee has an experienced and committed team of carers but, like the rest of Scotland, we are short of carers. Plans for some children being looked after by the Social Work are being frustrated because of a shortage of foster and adoptive families. We particularly need carers for older children and groups of brothers and sisters. To find out more, visit their website by clicking here.

================

Highland

In Highland, the greatest need is for adoptive homes for children beyond babyhood, particularly for family groups of 2 or more children, and occasionally for children who have physical, learning disabilities or special needs. To find out more, visit their website by clicking here.
