Many of them offer advice and counselling, preferably in person, but also on the telephone or by correspondence. The contact addresses are;
NORCAP (The National Organisation for Counselling Adoptees and their parents) is a self-help support group for all parties to adoption. It helps adult adopted people to get in touch with their birth parents, as well as offering help and support to birth parents, adoptive parents, and siblings of adopted people. NORCAP maintains a successful Contact Register and publishes a regular newsletter three times a year - subscription details can be obtained from NORCAP at the following address;

It is clear that the Internet is a very useful way of providing people with information and putting potential adopters and foster carers in touch with the agencies in their area. For more information, click here. Across the UK there are thousands of children in desperate need of a new family. Adoption-Net want to give a voice to the clients of the adoption and fostering agencies - the children as well as the adults - but also want to look at the issues from the other side of the fence and listen to the people who, everyday, have to make difficult life-changing decisions. For more information, click here. Foster care is a service for children and young people who cannot be with their parents because of a family crisis. Foster carers take these children into their own homes and look after them. Although this is a temporary arrangement, a child's stay with a carer can last anything from a couple of days to several months. No matter how long they spend together, foster carers create an environment in which young people can feel well looked after, valued and supported. For more information, click here. Dundee has an experienced and committed team of carers but, like the rest of Scotland, we are short of carers. Plans for some children being looked after by the Social Work are being frustrated because of a shortage of foster and adoptive families. We particularly need carers for older children and groups of brothers and sisters.
