Who we are....

What to do next?

The best place to start the adoption process is to educate yourself as much as possible about Adoption or Fostering. Read books (see our Book review section), contact Agencies or Local Authority (see our Organisations section) or talk to other people who have been adopted. A great way to find out more information is to use our free forum. Leave a message and hopefully someone will reply with the answer - to see how this could help, please visit the Adopters comments section.

Next you need to become an approved adopter or approved foster carer. To do this you will need to go through an adoption agency. Some are local authority social services or voluntary agencies. The Adoption process is not simple and is really designed so that you and the adoption agency are sure that Adoption is right for you.

Each adoption case is unique - quite rightly so, as we are talking about peoples lives and the appropriate amount of time should be set aside so that the adoption is right for everyone.

One of the many questions asked, is how long does the adoption process take? There is no easy answer and we can only give you a guide. For us, the process from start to finish has taken just over 2 years. I know this sounds a long time, and indeed it felt an awful lot longer, however, it has been worth it.
